May 2004
St. Croix County is projected to grow by 67.9 percent during the period, (2000-2030) easily outpacing the second fastest growing county, Calumet, at 45.1 percent. St. Croix County will also have the largest percentage increases during each of the three decades. During the 40-year period from 1990 to 2030, St. Croix County will more than double in size from 50,000 to 106,000. Both natural increase and in-migration will play significant roles in St. Croix County's growth.

Now online are two lists, one based on the present day population rank, the other sorted on the year 2025 projection.

A casualty of Stanton's negative growth rate is St. Bridget's as shown on May
31, 2004. Just five miles to the west new rural churches are being built in
the fast growing Town of Star Prairie.
In 2000, Saint Croix County population leaders are, Hudson (8,700), New Richmond (6,300) and the township of Hudson (6,200). But in the year 2025, Hudson (16,000) and the Township of Hudson (12,000) will be the new population leaders. New Richmond comes in third at 9,200.
In Polk County the current rank is Amery, Township of Alden and Village of Osceola. But in 2025 the census bureau forecasts the Township of Osceola as the population leader followed by the Township of Alden and Village of Osceola. Amery will rank as the 5th largest municipality and the second largest city behind the Village of Osceola.
The new projections apparently take into consideration the preference for rural life on large tracts of land, the strict zoning regulations in the Deer Park area limiting growth, Osceola's success in attracting manufacturing, and proximity to the Twin Cities.
Projections are based on today's trends although many things could change in 25 years.
